Brand Spankin’ NewShruti Raghavan, Pledge EducatorThis semester we had five pledges, all of whom initiated. All of them have drive, energy, and the kind of understanding of brotherhood that we work so hard to foster. This semester's pledges got a chance to do a few things that aren't done every semester. One of these was a TDW at Kent State. Troy and Jen Timbrook hosted a Team Development Workshop, and pledges were encouraged to attend. That was a great deal of fun, and exposed a pledge or two to inter-chapter relations as well as some team-building skills. We had two pledges attend the Sectional Conference, which got them excited about the national fraternity and gave them some good insights into fraternity issues, such as planning a good service program. One highlight from within the chapter was the very special, once-in-a-lifetime workshop: Robert and Me: My Longtime Love Affair With Robert's Rules, by Andrew Brinkman. Andrew put together a great workshop, one that was informative and fun. It gave everybody a functional, working knowledge of Robert's Rules. Our favorite was, "If nobody calls you on it, you're doing it right." The pledge fellowship event was an overnight at Wade. None of us had ever been to one before, so we thought it was a novel idea until we looked through some old photo albums at the meeting about chapter history. The pledge service project was one that many of us had never done before as well. We enjoyed pretending to be a HazMat (Hazardous Materials) team at Habitat for Humanity. All in all, it was a fun semester to pledge, and I am happy to welcome our new brothers to our fraternity!
