Nationals

Rosanne Rohana, President Incumbent

The latest National Convention was held December 27-30, 2000 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. 11 Brothers from Theta Upsilon were in attendance, including Jason Aring, Shawn Ashley, Andrew Brinkman, Amy Broestl, Dave Hanneke, Ben Langhals, Kristie Nusem, Shruti Raghavan, Marta Taddeo, Russ Trapp, and Howard Wolf.

Several workshops were available during the convention. One of the workshops caught the attention of Andrew Brinkman, our then Sergeant-At-Arms. The workshop pertained to Parliamentary Procedure. It inspired Andrew to later develop and lead a workshop of his own for the Brothers of Theta Upsilon -- aptly titled, Robert and Me: My Longtime Love Affair with Parliamentary Procedure. Another memorable workshop focused on diversity, including creating and maintaining a diverse chapter. There, the Brothers discovered that we do indeed have a diverse chapter. The highlight of the workshops was a Swing Dancing tutorial; several Brothers attended, and were later given the opportunity to show off their new skills at a dance.

In addition to attending workshops, we served during legislation with floor serves, security, and had Sergeant-At-Arms duties. Our very own Alum/Advisor, Howard Wolf, ran floor services during legislation, and did a great job. Jason Aring and Dave Hanneke represented the chapter as voting delegates. Legislation was passed to increase dues and to modify the Initiation oath in order to bring it inline with the four areas of service. Additionally, Officer Transition took place, a new Board of Directors was elected, and Troy Timbrook was elected Region V Director. Congratulations to Troy!

Everyone had a blast at the National Convention and cannot wait for the next one, which will take place on December 27-30, 2002 in New Orleans, Louisiana.

The Section 56/59 Conference was hosted by Xi Upsilon of Mount Union College in Alliance, Ohio, March 23-25, 2001. 7 Brothers, 2 Pledges, and 1 Advisor were in attendance, including Alec Burns, Andrew Brinkman, Kristie Nusem, Liz Pund, Shruti Raghavan, Rosanne Rohana, Marta Taddeo, Jon Boomershine, Sherlyn Paterson, and Howard Wolf. Oh, and Annod, too! We participated in Roll Call, using the theme from 2001: A Space Odyssey and placed Annod in the middle of our group. The surprise guest speaker was none other than Jimmie Bartle -- H.R. Bartle's daughter! She gave a rousing presentation, and spoke about the work and vision of her father.

Several workshops were presented, including a Membership Roundtable, Service Roundtable, Rush Roundtable, and a Stress Relief Tutorial. Each of these workshops was fun and informative, providing lots of great ideas for the coming semester. The Stress Relief Tutorial, however, was the favorite -- it involved hand, arm, leg, and back massage. In fact, this workshop was later recreated and presented at our CPPC. In addition to workshops, Mount Union provided service opportunities in the form of making and decorating Easter Baskets for children. The Sectional business meeting was rather straightforward; Andrew and Kristie served as voting delegates. We elected a new Sectional Chair -- Regina Forbes, an advisor with Mount Union. The business meeting led into social time, where we enjoyed getting to know Brothers from other chapters. And, while, most of us left in the early evening, Howard remained and was an eligible bachelor at the night's event.
