Alpha Phi Omega FAQ
What is Alpha Phi Omega?
Alpha Phi Omega (APO) is a nationwide community service fraternity.
It is set up much like the Greek Life fraternities. There are
chapter meetings, fellowship events, and community service
projects.
What do you mean by
"fraternity"? Doesn't that mean it's only for guys?
No! APO is a Co-Ed fraternity. All members are referred to
as "brothers", but anyone is allowed to join. In fact,
the Theta Upsilon chapter of APO at Case Western Reserve University
has a female majority. (not very common here!)
What exactly is a fellowship
event?
APO is not just an organization - we are a fraternity. In
order to promote the feelings of brotherhood amongst the members,
we have fellowship events where we just hang out, have fun,
and get to know each other.
How often are there
service projects and fellowship events?
There are usually 2-3 service projects each week, and 4-5
fellowship events each month.
Am I required to go
to a certain number of service and fellowship events?
You get to decide how much service you can handle. At the
beginning of each semester, you tell the chapter the minimum
number of hours of service your schedule will allow, and that's
all you are required to do. Fellowship events are not required.
Are there dues? Is
this going to put a dent in my bank account?
There are dues, but they are relatively low, usually around $45. That's not so bad, is it? It's much lower than the Greek affiliated fraternities'
dues on campus, and you still get to make friends and do service
for the community.
How do I become a member?
Everyone who enters APO starts out by being inducted
into the pledge program. More
details can be found on our calendar.
All you have to do to become a pledge is show up to
one of the inductions. See you there!
